Reading Fair Letter

August 31, 2017

Dear Parents,

Our Lady Academy is excited to announce the 2017 Reading Fair.  This is an excellent way to encourage students to read a variety of fiction genre titles. There will be awards for overall winners and for each division.

Projects must be brought to the Our Lady of the Gulf Community Center on Wednesday, October 11th, between 3:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.  Judging will take place on Thursday, October 12th.  Winners will be announced Thursday, October 12th, at the end of the school day. Parents will be able to view projects from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.  All projects must be brought home on Friday, October 13th.

Students in grades 7-12 will be required to make a 36” H x 48” W tri-fold storyboard of their selected book.  We will offer these boards for sale through the English department.  All profit for the sale of the boards will go to Maci Clarke and her family.  The cost of the boards will be $5.00. Boards will be delivered to school.  Poster boards or any other size boards are not allowed and will be disqualified and result in a zero.  Please complete the order form, all orders are due by September 15, 2017.

The story board must include the following story elements:
Title
Author
Publisher and Date
Main Characters
Setting
Plot Summary
Conflict
Solution/Resolution
Author’s Purpose
Tone or Mood
9-12 Grade ~ Author’s Story

Projects will be judged according to clarity of writing, creativity, quality of projects, thoroughness of writing, and interest invoked to read the book. These projects must be individual (only one person).  If you have access to the internet, you can find examples to use for ideas.

In His Mercy,

Leigh C Chapman ‘92
