Important Notes:

The seventh and eight grade say ALOHA TO SUMMER! at the Spring Fling dance Saturday, April 30 in the OLA commons.  The dance will be from 7-10PM.  Advanced tickets can be purchased at OLA beginning on Monday April 25 from 8-8:20AM and after school from 3:30-4PM.  See Mrs. Mayer or Mrs. Russo to purchase tickets.

Cruisin' Competition/Reward Systems Guidelines:
1.  Individual students selling $100 or more in raffle tickets get a 1/2 day at the beach.  
2.  Class with the most combined money from sale of Cruisin' Drawdown Tickets and raffle tickets will get a day at the Waterpark.  

3.  Students selling 10 Cruisin' tickets will receive $100 tuition credit.  
4.  The seller of the ticket pulled before the winning drawdown ticket will receive free lunch pass for May.

This Fund Raiser Event will be held on April 29, 2016 at the OLG Community Center from 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.  If you know someone who would like to donate to the Silent Auction, please have them to contact the school office.

Precautions Against Mono

We have a few diagnosed cases of Monuculeosis in our school. As a precaution, I have asked our maintenance company to sanitize our desktops, knobs, and other items in which the students come in contact with throughout the day.

I have also requested that our science teachers incorporate a lesson about behaviors that can help this infection.

 

Please encourage your daughters to keep a germ removal sanitizer in their backpacks and use it regularly throughout the school day.

 

Mononucleosis

Mono, or mononucleosis, is spread through direct contact with saliva. This includes sharing eating utensils, drinks, and even things like lip gloss, lipstick, or lip balm.

Because it takes about 4 to 7 weeks for symptoms to appear, a person who's infected can spread the virus without even knowing it. Though no one really knows exactly how long it takes after infection with the virus for someone to become contagious, it's pretty safe to say that a person is most contagious from right before symptoms start until they go away.

If you've shared drinks with or kissed someone who has mono, there's no way to tell whether you will get it — unless you know you've had mono before. People who have already been infected with the virus that causes mono — Epstein-Barr virus or EBV — probably won't get re-infected because they develop immunity. (Although it is possible for the virus to "reactivate," it's not because someone infects you all over again. It's because in rare cases the original virus can flare up and cause symptoms a second time).

About 95% of adults have been infected with EBV and 50% of kids are infected before age 5. So you may very well have already had mono and not known it.

If you do get the symptoms of mono — such as fever, sore throat, and tiredness — contact your doctor to find out whether you need an appointment. If so, your doctor will examine you and may also do a blood test for mono. Other viruses and some bacterial infections — such as strep — may cause similar symptoms.

Dear All:

As we approach our annual Cruisin' With the Crescents Annual Fundraiser listed below are some reminders:

1)  Each student registration purchased two tickets that admits two individuals in per ticket.  The ticket entitles the owner to a meal and an opportunity to win a $6,000 scholarship if present or $3,000 if not present or if the winner does not wish to choose the scholarship.  Some lucky ticket holder could have their tuition covered for the 2016-2017 School Year.  These tickets do not count in the class/individual competitions.

2)  Each family was mailed a third ticket to assist with the ticket sales.  Please return that SOLD ticket stub and $75 to the office in an envelope or return the UNSOLD ticket in the same fashion this week.  We appreciate your efforts to sell the this ticket.  The $75 sale will count with your daughter's individual total for the 1/2 day at the beach and in the class competition for the waterpark.  Additional tickets are available through the office.

Junior Class Meeting for Prom, Today at Lunch in Mrs. Renz’s class.

Tennis Results:

The SSC and OLA tennis team competed in the individual district 8-4A tournament at Pass High on Monday April 11th.  SSC/OLA wrapped up the team district title last week to take their 18th consecutive title. Individual tournament champions and runners-up advance to the state tournament in Oxford, MS May 9-11. James Estrada won boys singles, Claire Escher and Grace Nicaud won girls doubles, Mitchell walk and Madison Wawrek won mixed doubles, Thomas Healy and Jacob Estrada were doubles runner-up as were Paige palazzo and Laura Grace Ritten. The Rocks and Crescents finished the regular season 10-2 and will play Northeast Jones on Tuesday April 17th at 3:00 pm in the first round of the playoffs.  Congratulations to All.

The softball team would like to thank all who contributed to the Pink Heart’s Fund on Friday.  We were able to donate $137.50 to St Patrick’s efforts. 

While the JV lost their game to St Patrick JV 7-1, the Varsity won both of their games 12-2 defeating both Collins and Long Beach.

Tennis & Archery:

The OLA Archery Team placed 2^nd in the State Competition yesterday.  They were just a few points away from taking the State Title.  SSC and OLA tennis teams wrapped up their 18th consecutive district title by defeating Pass High winning all courts. The JV tennis team also finished the season undefeated in play vet sweeping all 5 courts.  The OLA Tract Team placed 4^th out of eight schools.  Congratulations to all!

Seniors

White Shoe Check:  Don’t forget, on Monday all Seniors must bring their white shoes to Principal Cuevas for approval based on dress guidelines.

Science Club

There will be a Science Club Meeting on Monday, April 11^th after school in Mrs. Cranford’s room.  Open to grades 7^th through 12^th.

OLG VBS:

If you would like to volunteer for OLG's Vacation Bible School, June 13-17, there is a sign up on Ms. Renz's door. There will be a mandatory meeting next Tuesday, April 12, @ 8am.  

Athletic Eligibility Due to Absence --Daily attendance at school and practice is expected.  In order for an athlete to be eligible to participate in any after-school activity she must be present in school on the day of the activity.  If the activity is to be held on a Saturday, then the student must be in attendance in school on the preceding Friday….practices are included in this rule also.

Iowa Tests of Basic Skills:  Beginning Tuesday, April 12, Wednesday, April 13, and Thursday April 14(Eighth Grade) of next week -- April 12 All Seventh through Eleventh Grade Students will be completing Diocesan Required Standardized testing.  Students who score in the 90th percentile or higher on the composite score on the IOWA test and whose score did not decrease from the previous year, and all students whose score increases by 3 % will be rewarded next school year with a trip to Gulf Islands Waterpark!   Junior reward will be based on a comparison of Ninth Grade Standardized Test Scores.

World’s Finest Chocolate

Spanish Honor Society is selling World’s Finest Chocolate bars for $1.00 in Mrs. Bartel’s room.

Friday, April 29^th        3^RD Annual “Cruisin’ with the Crescents – Kickin’ it Old School”

This Fund Raiser Event will be held on April 29, 2016 at the OLG Community Center from 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.  If you know someone who would like to donate to the Silent Auction, please have them to contact the school office.

Reward Day. 

All 7^th, 8^th and 9^th grades will have “Reward Day” today at 3:00 p.m.  Mrs. Wilkinson will be giving out the list of names to the 8^th Period Classes.

Bus Service for 2016-2017 School Year: 

Please contact the Our Lady Academy Office and speak to Mrs. Hinson at 228-467-7048 to reserve your bus service by April 15 AND pay the $50.00 fee to reserve a seat on the bus for your child.  Space is limited. Following April 8 new student registration will be offered.

Food Drive

Campus Ministry is hosting a Food Drive for the St. Vincent de Paul Society.  It is a competition between the Sisterhoods and whoever wins will receive a prize.

Prom Tickets

Saint Stanislaus / Our Lady Academy Junior Senior Prom “Arabian Nights” will be held on Saturday, April 16, 2016 from 8:00 until 11:00 p.m. at the Bay-Waveland Yacht Club.  Students must arrive no later than 9:00 p.m. and must remain until 11:00 p.m.  Prom Tickets are on sale in Mrs. Estrade’s office at SSC.
