Mark 9:35 - Sitting down, Jesus called the twelve and said, "If anyone wants to be first, he must be the very last, and the servant of all."

Thoughts on today's verse:  Last? Nobody likes to be last. Jesus reverses the rank. The person who is most important to him is not the person seeking the status and notoriety. The most important person is like Jesus himself: willing to give up rank and status and importance to serve. For Jesus, last means first in service and first in the eyes of God.

Lord Jesus, help us to see those you want us to serve with grace and kindness as we try to be more like you. In Jesus name we pray…

John 4:24 - God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship him in spirit and in truth.

Thoughts on today's verse: 
Genuine worship is a gift. Since God is spirit, since he is holy, we cannot fully approach him without the gift and blessing of his Holy Spirit. As Christians who received his Spirit when we were baptized into Christ and born of God, we can now speak to him and worship him Spirit to Spirit.

Father, by the gift of your Spirit we come to you as your children. Thank you so much for giving us your Spirit so that we can approach you with confidence and know you hear the concerns of our hearts. Please accept the worship of our hearts, of our words, and of our actions. May the things we do today bring you glory.  In Jesus name we pray.

MONDAY—students may bring in a can good and/or $2 that will be donated to Ruth’s Roots, King’s Kitchen and St Paul’s Food Pantry---IN RETURN they may wear sweatpants/joggers with an OLA t-shirt.   (outerwear if worn must be OLA also)  To honor our COMMUNITY. 

TUESDAY—VALENTINE DAY THEME—you may wear valentine/red/pink and white colors (heart accessories, everything love) shirt with their school skirt and valentine/red/white socks and accessories with tennis shoes. 

WEDNESDAY—after Mass students may put on RED, WHITE AND BLUE accessories/socks to honor our NATION. CAC will provide an ice-cream snack at lunch. 

THURSDAY—students may dress in business attire to honor VOCATIONS.

To honor our students we will be decorating masks in all History classes 7-12. 

FRIDAY---students will dress in their costumes from their assigned groups for the pep rally performance—This performance will entail a costumed 3 minute dance and all groups will be given assigned Mardi Gras themed music. Handheld props are approved but no other stationary props of any kind are allowed . 

Ì Each day, each class will be graded on the % of participation by class. 

Ì STUDENTS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO MEET TOGETHER AFTER SCHOOL—dances practice and costume creation should be virtual or individual. 

Ì Each class will pick 3 masks to be judged and 1st, 2nd and 3rd place will receive points. 

Ì There will be one game at the pep rally and points will go to winner. 

Ì Costume, dance and participation will be judged at pep rally. 

Ì Class with the most points will be the winner……SPIRIT WEEK CHAMPIONS. 

Attention class Presidents and Vice Presidents see Mrs. Cuevas after school today and she will airdrop the pep rally music to your phone.

Philippians 4:8  -  Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable -- if anything is excellent or praiseworthy -- think about such things.

Thoughts on today's verse:  Our actions follow our thoughts.  So in a day when so much around us trains us to find the negative in life, we must aggressively think and pursue the character, the qualities, and the things of God's goodness.

Holy and Magnificent God, thank you for being better than anything our world can offer us. Thank you for calling us to a higher standard than the world accepts. Thank you for giving we the promise of a better future than any human can imagine. In Jesus' holy name we pray.

OLA SPORTS

-Softball practice will start after school today at the OLA softball field.
-Tennis tryouts/practice will start after school today at Diamondhead Tennis World.
-Golf meeting after school in the Commons.
If you are currently playing soccer or basketball you will finish these sports before reporting to your spring sport. All of the coaches are aware of this!

Thoughts on today's verse:  So often we're afraid to ask for help because we have to admit we don't have the answers. Let's ask our Father and seek his glory.

Father, we are sorry that so often you hear only our complaints, and concerns. You have been so generous with your love. Help us to keep our hearts set on you and your will today as we ask you to minister to the things in our hearts. Through Jesus we pray. Amen.

Galatians 6:7-8   Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit will reap eternal life."

Thoughts on today's verse:  Isn't it incredible how huge trees grow out of tiny seeds! This principle runs throughout all of life. Let us make sure the seeds we sow are the ones we want sprouting up!

O Eternal God, bless the seeds our lives sow so they may bear fruit and bless those we love. Through Jesus we pray.

Philippians 2:14-16 - Do everything without complaining or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe as you hold out the word of life.

Thoughts on today's verse:  Stars. They've always been a source of constant hope for God's people. Jesus was a bright star come to us from heaven to shine God's light to those in darkness.


Almighty God, we thank you for calling us to be a light in the dark world around us and we pledge to shine your light today and always. Through Jesus we pray.

John 8:31-32  Jesus said, "If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."

Thoughts on today's verse:  There are few things more coveted than freedom. People die for it. People pray for it. People strive for it. True freedom comes from knowing truth. Knowing truth only comes by living in obedience to Jesus. Truth is not something you merely think about or believe. Truth is something you do, you live.

Father, we seek not only your presence in our daily lives, but also in the choices we make. as we pray.

Restrooms

When you are in the restroom, please make sure the toilet is completely flushed before leaving.  If it is not flushing correctly, please report this to the office so we can contact our maintenance department. 

OLA SPORTS

The varsity soccer team will play at Bay High tonight at 5:30.

The varsity basketball team will play at West Marion tonight at 5 pm. 

School Mass Next Tuesday

Monday, is a holiday, no school.  We will return on Tuesday, we will have a School Mass with the Bishop.  All students must wear their oxford shirts.   Mass will start at 9:55, parents can view mass live-streamed via the OLA Facebook page. 

Students who have classes at SSC, WILL NOT report to SSC on Tuesday.  Instead, 1st period Band and French students will report to Ms. Cranford’s classroom; 2nd Period Physics students will report to Mrs. Bush’s classroom; 6th Period French and Band students will report to Mrs. Tolar’s classroom.  And 8th Period Band will report to the office.

Good Morning OLA!   Today is Thursday, January 14, 2021. 

Please stand for our morning prayer as we remember that we are in the presence of God.  

 

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. 

Let us offer our special intentions for those in need of our prayers. 

1 John 4:20-21  If anyone says, "I love God," yet hates his brother, he is a liar. For anyone who does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot love God, whom he has not seen. And he has given us this command: Whoever loves God must also love his brother."

Thoughts on today's verse:  We see what love is by what God does. He asks us to do the same for our brothers and sisters. Love must be more than talk, it must be genuinely demonstrated in action!

Father, through your Spirit, prompt us to show our love to others in actions rather than just thought and talk. Through Jesus we pray.

 

Our Father, Who art in heaven Hallowed be Thy Name; Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Math Path will meet after school today,  you must be signed up with Ms. Ashley before attending. 

CAC meeting in Commons at 8:00 am Wednesday.   ALL are welcome and we are continuing our planning of Spirit week that will be Feb 1-5.  

Also, an email was sent out yesterday to ALL STUDENTS AND STAFF.  Please check your email and complete your menu selection before the end of 1st period today.  Even if you are not eating in the cafeteria, you must still complete the link.

Let us offer our special intentions for those in need of our prayers. 

John 6:35   Jesus declared, "I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty."

Thoughts on today's verse:  We crave food at regular intervals during the day. But deep in our soul is a hunger, a soul hunger. It cannot be filled by food, drink, or chemicals.  This hunger can only be filled by Jesus.

Precious Lord, Jesus my Savior, fill us and touch us with your presence so that we can serve you by blessing those around us with your grace. Through Jesus we pray.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. 

Let us offer our special intentions for those in need of our prayers. 

Galatians 3:26-29 - You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus, for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.

Thoughts on today's verse:  When we become Christians through faith and baptism into Christ, we are made one with all other Christians around the world.  Our destination is the same, heaven. 

Father, thank you for adopting me into your family. May we be one earth now, as we will be when we are all together around your throne in heaven. I pray for unity among all those who call upon your name and share your Spirit so the world may know there is a solution to conflict, strife and division. Through Jesus our Savior, we pray…..

1 Peter 1:15-16  Just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: "Be holy, because I am holy."

Thoughts on today's verse:  When God is calling us to be holy, he's calling us to be something special, and as Peter emphasizes, just like him.

Holy Lord, God Almighty, we come before you knowing how great the distance is between your holiness and our commonness. We thank you for making us holy through the sacrifice of Jesus and by sending your Holy Spirit to live inside of us. Through Jesus we pray.

Good Morning OLA!   Today is Friday, January 8, 2021. 

Please stand for our morning prayer as we remember that we are in the presence of God.  

 

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

 

Ephesians 5:1-2 - Be imitators of God as dearly loved children and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.

Thoughts on today's verse:  Imitation is the most sincere form of flattery. If we are to sincerely flatter God by being like him, imitation may be the most costly form of flattery as well. Love for God is never something that occurs just in our minds or our hearts. Love is something we do for another -- it is action. We must love in both our deeds and our words. Love means to give ourselves up -- what we want, our rights, our desires -- to honor God and serve others. This is a kind of love that can change the world.

Father, we will never fully understand how you could love us so much that you would allow your son to die for us. Please help us to love others sacrificially. We know the power to do this is not within us, so please pour your love into our hearts so that we may share that love with others. Through Jesus, we pray……
